The Golden Gate Chapter of SCI is conducting a youth essay contest open to all California resident boys and girls between the ages of 15 to 17 by January 31, 2008. Family members of the Golden Gate Chapter’s Board of Directors are not eligible to participate.

There are 9 prizes to be awarded. The grand prize being attendance for 1 to the Youth Apprentice Hunters Camp to be held July 6th to July 12th 2008 at Indian Head Ranch located in Del Rio Texas. Included with this prize is $400.00 to be used for round trip airfare and other travel related expenses and an additional $100.00 to help with the purchase of the required equipment needed to attend the camp. Details and all requirements must be fulfilled prior to attending this SCI sponsored camp and can be found by going to www.indianheadranch.com. Keep in mind attendance to this camp will only be allowed if all pre-requirements are completed before the camp date of commencement.

Second and Third prize are gift certificates to attend one of the California Waterfowler’s Association 2008 Youth Waterfowler’s Hunters Camps. These camps are 2.5 days and are held on Mandeville Island located near Stockton, Ca. There are special camps held yearly and the gift certificate entitles you to choose the one you want to attend. These camps fill up early so be sure to make your reservations as soon possible after receiving your prize. Further details are available at www.calwaterfowl.org.

Fourth through Ninth prize are gift certificates to attend one of the California Waterfowl Association Youth Shooters Clinics held during 2008. These are 1 day clinics held at Coyote Valley Sporting Clay Establishment located near Morgan Hill, Ca. This clinic includes shooting instruction from certified instructors, ammunition, targets, snacks and a 1 year membership in the California Waterfowl Association. Likewise, these clinics fill up rather quickly so be sure to make your reservations as soon as possible after receiving your prize. Further details can be found at www.calwaterfowl.org.

Parental or legal guardian permission and release of liability forms must be signed before your prize can be awarded.

The theme of the essay is… The role hunting has and is playing in wildlife conservation. The essay must be no more than 500 words in length and must be submitted via e-mail to tgpryor@comcast.net no later than January 31, 2008. Entries received after that date will not be eligible. All winners will be notified by March 31, 2008. Include your first and last name, address of record, e-mail address, day and evening phone numbers, the name of your parent or legal guardian and where they can be contacted.
